Biography

Dr. Arun Kumar Pal (Born.01.08.1962) is Head, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswa Vidyalaya (State Agricultural University), Nadia, West Bengal, India where he has been since December, 1997. He received his Ph.D. in Horticulture in Floriculture and Landscaping from the Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswa Vidyalaya in 1993. From 1988 to 1991 he worked at The Agri. Horticultural Society of India, Kolkata. He also served as Scientist (I.C.A.R.) at Ramkrishina Ashram Krishi Vigyan Kendra during 1995 to 1997. His research interests center on improving Agro-techniques of crops like Tuberose, Marigold, Annuals flower, Foliage plants. He has worked on Organic manure and bio-stimulants to those crops. He has given numerous invited talks on TV & Radio programme, Govt. of West Bengal, State Bank of India (Rural Sector), Director of Extention BCKV and others training programme. Professor Pal is co-author of book Varieties of Horticultural Crops (Agrobios, 2006) and writer of floriculture book chapter and is the author of over forty research papers on Floriculture. Professor Pal is an academic expert of different Indian University and Institutes like Calcutta University, Viswa Bharati, Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bihar Agricultural University. He guided two Ph.D. and eight M.Sc. students. At present he has two PhD and three M.Sc. students. He visited different country like Thailand, Malaysia, Srilanka and Bangladesh. He participated twenty four national and international seminar & symposium(13-National and 11-International).He also participated five winter/summer school. His major contribution in the field of floriculture is to popularization of tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa L) variety Prajwal cultivation in the major flower growing area of West Bengal, India.
